:: Psychometric Test MARA ::

Assalamualaikum, hello there...

As how much as I hoped for hints for the test, hopefully this would be beneficial. So, it's time to talk more details about MARA huh.. Yup, the so-called nerve-wrecking Psychometric Test. Untuk program Pasca Siswazah 2013. Well, I got an invitation to sit for this test last month. 30th of April 2013 to be exact.

How was it? Hmm...it was so-so lah. The questions weren't that tough. If you ask me whether or not you have to prepare beforehand, I would say...it probably won't give you any advantage unless you know which consultant company did MARA referred to thehehe. The test generally comprises of 3 sections. A: 50 MCQs in English - B: 50 MCQs in Bahasa Melayu - C: 50-words length of Essay (was asked in English). And oh! Only 1 hour was given to answer all!

Still wondering how the questions were? Nah, silakanlah baca sampai habis ye. Sorry sebab panjang sangat. Just bear with it, ok :)

Rasanye this test is designed to evaluate your..everything?? Sebab MrGoogle bgtau yang ada some employers guna this to substitute interview session. So, it might test your IQ, personality, attitude, leadership, etc. And as for MARA, YES.. I could feel that I was tested on these things. Examples are as follows:
Logical thinking
> If ABCD=2143, what is D9EJ?
Teka-teki pun ada..
> Encik Ali, bapa Siti, ada 4 org anak. Nana, Nini, Nono. Apakah nama anak ke-4?
Leadership
> A good leader is ______.
(among choices: people-centric/work-centric/principles-centric. no right/wrong answers. it depends on your preference)
Entrepreneurship
> An entrepreneur is responsible for ________.
Personality/Attitude
> Apakah yang anda lakukan jika ternampak budak membuang sampah merata-rata?
Problem Solving
> Apakah yang perlu dilakukan terhadap gadis yang mengandung anak luar nikah?
Simple Maths
> 10,000 plus 500, add another 500, minus 20, times 5, minus 1,000 and add 10 is _____?
General Issues 
> Apakah punca utama perceraian? (also depends on your own priority)
General Knowledge
> Bagaimanakah cara untuk mengubah saiz windows pada desktop?

Essay
> How did you see yourself in the next 5 years?

See! They aren't as tough as you thought they would be, rite? 70% daripadanya simple je. Tapi tak dinafikan, ada jugak lah soalan yang mencabar. Undeniable. That 30% lah. But mostly, they are just about you being yourself. That's how they judge you. Some questions might look the same. Are they testing on your consistency? Maybe. As well as your tahap kepekaan jugak.

Piece of advise? Answer as fast as you can. There's no time to even bite your nails or to look pretty/handsome hahaha. Seriously. Kalau tak dapat jawab, better skip je dulu then come back to it later. Ramai yang suggest jawab yang BM dulu sebab lebih senang. But if you understand English better than BM, maybe you should go for English dulu kot. Whichever yang menyenangkan lah. As for the essay, takyah bgtau pn anda tau kan. You could do a draft beforehand. Rileks. Jangan gelabah sangat ok. You could bring a calculator. Just in case. Mana tau kot2 blank. tambah tolak pun boleh salah nanti thehehe. I asked a friend whom went for program Lepasan SPM 2013. The questions are more or less the same. I mean, the scope of the questions. They tested him on the same elements as well.

So, just be yourself. Don't try to look good by choosing the most angelic answers. You'll be busted somehow. Believe me :)

    hi, out of 100 ques, how many ques involving math? is there any ques of diagram sequence? any tips? since I will seat for the test next week. your respond will be helpful..

      hi! sorry, can't really remember the exact figure. but i would say around 20-25% of the total question, maybe.

      and yes, there were abstract reasoning questions. forgot to include it in the example. thanks to you, i've updated how it may look like (see my updated entry above) ^^, and good luck for your sitting! :)

    Hi. Yang peringkat professional tu, tu sama dengan master ke macammana? Because I want to continue on master, tapi time tu takde choice yang tu. Ada professional and falsafah je. Falsafah tu orang kata phd, so I chose professional. Is it the same as master?

      Hi. Not quite sure tp if I'm not mistaken, there was an option for master during my time. But since u said so, professional is the nearest option la kan.
      Oh haa! I remembered one of my lecturer said that the professional papers I'm taking right now is equivalent to master.
      Tapi I would suggest u to ask org mara sendiri utk kesahihan :)

      I really dont mind answering that actually. Tapi sorry...I dont have a clue on how to answer it hehehe.
      Mse sy dlu, there were some simple abstracts yg boleh directly nmpk jwpn. But some others were unreasonably hard.
      Maybe u could do some googling to understand it better or just 'tembak' je like what I did.

    50-words essay? That is quite short. Are you sure? 50 words is like a Facebook status update je, bukan mcm essay. For example, below is 50 words "essay":

    This is a fifty words length of essay. This is a fifty words length of essay. This is a fifty words length of essay. This is a fifty words length of essay. This is a fifty words length of essay. This is a fifty words length of essay. This is.

    See, it's too short. Mmg 50 patah perkataan je ke?

      I think she's sure about it since she's gone through it. And I've seen people who have taken the test last year said the same thing - only 50 words. IMO it's only 50 words cause there is no time to do a full page essay since they have to answer 100 MCQs (!) PLUS the essay. So that's why the 50 words count (maybe they shouldn't have call it an essay since it's too short).

      ANYWAY, this year there is no essay (maybe cause it's online) and also cause there's going to be an interview next week. So don't worry about it.

      Hi.. Yup, I'm very sure abt it. It's indeed short kann.. Well u could just regard it as a short essay then. Interestingly enough, I think they did that with reasons.
      1- As been replied above (thanks for answering on my behalf btw :)), u would need more time if u were to write more kan? This also means more time need to be spent for the marker (reader?).
      2- 100 words? I dont think they are interested to know thousands of candidates' mission and vision that much. 50 could possibly yawn them already hehehe.
      3- Speaking from experience, it is harder than u may think to compose all your thoughts in such limited words. This could simply mean that they wanna test your ability to be precise and concise.

      p/s: u guys would be doing an online test ke? Mara is sure sentiasa penuh dgn kejutan haha. And pheww..nasib baik my batch terlepas dri interview.

Especially on the abstract reasoning questions as I honestly couldn't solve the example you gave. I'll be sitting for my online psychometric test on March 20th.       Hi dear.. There was no interview session during my batch. We were just required to sit for the psychometric test. Nothing further. So sorry, I'm afraid I cant provide answers for your questions.

      Korang kena buat test tu sendiri2 ke? No one to invigilate then! But still, mcm la ade masa nk cheat or google kan haha. Yeah, I think so.. baru la ade modal utk di-interview kan. Interview lg cuak oh ;)

    Salam. Sigh...i missed my psychometric test on 18th march. Thought they'll notify applicant for the test. Too bad, i don't regularly check MARA website. Read from the web, seems like there's no second time. just curious, if i call MARA, and ask, will i get another chance for the test and the interview? Appreciate your input.

Oh my..really?? how could u miss that?? sorry, but u should've marked that date and never missed it. honestly, i don't think there'll be a second time either. but u might have your own valid reason kan and there's no harm in trying. who knows u'll be able to pujuk dorg ke kan? and u still have your interview session, rite? all the best! :)

      Wslm. Aah, mostly ramai yg je yg dpt course pilihan. Kawan akak further course yg mcm tak penah dgr pn ade hahaha. Cth, science atomium dan health & safety kalau tak silap Rasanye as long as the course relevant to our beloved country's pembangunan, mara would approve it. Kena tukar negara tu mcm penah dgr jugak but not so sure lah :)
      Akak amk ACCA dik. Kenapa dik? Biz study mara tak bgi amk ke?

    i wanna ask u some tips for those who isn't really good in english for interview..
    i'm lack of confidence n vocabs when it comes to speaking..
    hope u can help me cuz the interview is just around the corner..
    n my friend told me that there will be a public speaking session on some issue n of course in english!!

      Wslm. Your writing looks fine though :)
      Hmm..surely you've heard "practise makes perfect" kan? Sounds cliché but believe me it works tau! U could improve vocab by reading lots of english materials. I have a friend yg suka baca kamus and her english is superb yaww! And i do found myself better bila selalu bce english books, tak kisah buku cerita fiksyen pun boleh.

      Reading loudly pun one of the ways jugak. Basically all u need is, to make, especially your brain and tongue, used to english especially a week or few days before the itvw day.

      Practise speaking dengan kawan, kalau dorg taknak, ckp sorg2 depan cermin pun boleh.

      Kalau tetiba blur, i suggest u just use few malay words drpd duk aaa..ummm..ehh.. lelama depan interviewer, provided they understand malay la. *this is what i always did cz sy pun 2x5 jugak sebenarnya haha.

      Most importantly, try to keep urself calm. Bila bertenang insyaAllah u'll be more rational and would do well. Best wishes for u! :)

    Hi there. I reached the part where you said don't be too angelic. But all the responses i gave consisted of 4's and 5's, some 3's and maybe a 1. Those were my honest answers because most answers I gave that needed me to rate myself were mostly 4's and some 5's. Would I fail to get the scholarship? :c

    I'm worried they might think I'm a fake when I'm really not. T.T
